We are delighted to announce that we will be in attendance at this years G50 summit at Staverton Park, Daventry
The G50 Summit is returning for the third successive year, but this year we have been told, will be different! It is still the must attend industry event of 2010, and continues to be aimed at the influencers and decision makers who run the contracting and supplier industry. What’s different is the format, it will be a one day, more focused event. Always conscious that we should keep abreast of the markets in which our customers operate we will be taking part in full in what promises to be an exciting and thought provoking day.
The Programme

10.30 - 10.40 - Chairman’s Introduction
Chair : Joanne Smith, 2112 Events Ltd
2009 a year to forget, will 2010 be one to remember? After a glittering career with EMAP, and establishing a successful freelance event management business, Joanne will give us her thoughts on what has happened since the G50 2009, where the UK exhibition and event market is going, where the opportunities lie and what our businesses need to be focusing on, to set the scene for the conference.
10.40 - 11.40 - Going International, An organiser’s view of the international market and whether we can be more of a part of it?
Eliane van Doorn, Group Director from UBM International Media actively heads up their exploration into new regions. UBM’s growth comes from unwrapping new markets, cloning shows, and developing into new areas and regions such as Asia, Europe and the Americas. Why and how they do it, what barriers they face, and how they fuel this business expansion. What lessons can suppliers and contractors learn from this approach, and are there any opportunities to hang onto their coat tails for some mutual benefits, Eliane will tell all!
Who’s tried it and what was it like? Was the grass greener on the other side, and were the rewards as expected? In this panel session fellow ESSA members share their experiences to give us all an insight into the reality of going international and the potential pitfalls to avoid.
Matt Sims, Revelation (event management) Ltd & Jason Popp, Melville GES
11.40 - 12.40 Legislative changes you need to know about
The two most common enquiries received on the ESSA Helpline are VAT, when, where and at what rate it should or shouldn’t be charged, and what is permissible under venue regulations. In addition, pension reform is looming with cost implications for all businesses, and there is free money out there to be grabbed, which can be put straight onto the bottom line or be used to enhance employee benefits.
Three experts will cover each of the areas in turn followed by a Q&A Panel session – lodge your questions early. Kevin Woolridge from VAT experts Kingston Smith, Sian Richards from EC&O Venues and Andy Healy from Towergate outline the upcoming changes and what impact this will have on your businesses.
12.40 - 12.45 ESSA Soap Box – Communications WG update. Matt Sims, Comms WG Chair
12.45 - 14.00 Lunch
14.00 - 15.00 Social NOTworking and the Marketing Mix
The next generation of buyers will communicate in a completely different way, as some say email will be dead in the next decade so we’ll all be TwitterdInFaceBeeboing. We’re all aware of Social Media, but what do we need to do and how long will it take, what benefits can be enjoyed and where does it sit with the other marketing we do. In this session we’ll hear from a real expert who will explain what Social Media is, blowing away the myths, keeping it simple and real.
This will be followed by Adam Malik, Content and General Manager from Imago Communications Ltd, who will share some of their successes with Social Media and more importantly what they’ve learnt on the way to help us shortcut success.
Finally, we’ll hear from Amanda Robinson, Marketing Director from Towergate Coverex, who will share her thoughts on how to blend social media into our existing marketing activities, with an appreciation of SMEs and the fact everyone has a day job to do! We’ll identify from the audience some advocates, non believers, toe dippers and throw them a ‘mike ball’, so they can share what they do, how long it takes, and did it work. To end the session we hope everyone will walk away knowing whether Social Media will Work or NOTwork for them.
15.00 - 15.45 What the Exhibitor Thinks!
Following the revelations of the virgin exhibitor at G50 2009, we’re delighted to welcome ESET’s, VP of Marketing, Quinton Watts. ESET is an international award winning brand delivering software solutions for ever increasing security threats, who use exhibitions extensively to deliver their products to the market on a global scale. Continuing with our International theme, Quinton will give a unique insight into his experiences of exhibiting all over the world – what are the challenges of working in different regions, what are the highs and lows, and how does the UK compare! Never one to shy away from the truth, he will provide honest feedback on what would make him stop ESET’s ever increasing use of our medium.
